YES! YES! And YES! It has finally happened! We have
officially adopted a little baby girl. For some of you this news may be
shocking and we are sorry that we were not able to keep you up to date on the
blog as the events of the adoption took place. But to catch everyone up, the
month of November was a very special month for us as well as a stressful and
exciting time.
At the beginning of the month we received the “call.” You
think you will be ready for this moment, but it is so shocking that you can’t
believe that it is happening or that you are actually talking about an actual,
real situation! Anyway, we got the call that there is a potential birth mom,
but the situation was a little different because the baby was already born and they
wanted to know if we were interested. No doubt we were interested!
In a couple of hours we found out we were the chosen family!
Oh, my! “Now what?” we wondered. After a couple of stressful days and legal
happenings, we were able to move forward with the adoption and to wait through
the ten-day waiting period. We knew that our little girl was going to be coming
home two days before we got her; so, we dashed around and got the house ready.
We got Lillian Reese the Friday before Thanksgiving and then
everything became “official” the Monday after Thanksgiving. Official in the
sense that we are her guardians and no one can take her away, but the
finalization will not happen for the next 6 months and a couple of visits from
our agency. Looking back on all that has happened, it is clear that the Lord
was at work in this situation. There is so much in the details that it cannot
just be a coincidence, but much more working together to bring her to our home.
For me (Cindy), I was
able to finish up my internship hours for school and have time off while we
welcomed her into our home. Now that internship has turned into a job and it is
wonderful to be able to stay home and work a little. Another incident is our insurance. No joke, a
week before we got the call, we changed companies just so we could have family
insurance that was cheaper than our original! We had no idea that two weeks
later we would be adding a child to that family plan. Also, there have been numerous people who have
said they were burdened to pray for us in those first few weeks of November and
they had no idea what was going on at the time.
Through all of this, we have learned so much how God does
answer prayers. We have been praying for a child for six years and now, to have
her in our home every time I look at her, I know the Lord answers prayers (it
may just happen in his timing rather than when we think it should happen). We are
excited and still on cloud nine to have this bundle of joy in our lives and
that we were able to go through the adoption process. Thank you to each and
every one of you – who prayed, supported, encouraged and loved on us as we
traveled down this journey. We pray that God will bless each one of you and
that you will seek after Him because he is truly there and working!
So what now… Well, we are going to live our lives loving our
daughter and sharing our story of how God can work in our lives and allow
Lillian to share her story when and how she wants. We are open to talking and
sharing about the adoption process with anyone who wants to know or whoever
questions, but her story is hers to share. Thank you for being there for us.
P.S. Due to our own personal reasons, we have decided not to
put pictures on social media sites. We hope that you understand, but I know
some of you may be dying to meet her sweet face. You can always contact us.
God is good!! I am so happy for all three of you!
